Dave Allen returns to Doncaster for a major hometown fight on May 16, when he faces Filip Hrgovic at Keepmoat Stadium live on DAZN.
Allen (25-8-2, 20 KOs) has built a loyal following across the UK, but this will be only his second professional fight in Doncaster and his first there since 2015. For the 35-year-old, the chance to headline at home represents one of the biggest nights of his career.

“This is everything I’ve wanted,” Allen said. “A big fight, at home, in front of my own people. Nights like this don’t come around often, and I’m not letting it pass me by.”
Hrgovic (19-1, 14 KOs) brings world-level danger into the matchup. The Croatian heavyweight’s only defeat came against Daniel Dubois in 2024, and he has wins over Zhilei Zhang, Joe Joyce and David Adeleye.
Promoter Frank Warren called the fight a major occasion for Doncaster and framed it as a serious test for Allen. “Filip has got into a habit of beating British heavyweights,” Warren said, “so this really is a ‘Dave vs Goliath’ battle.”
In the co-main event, Michael Gomez Jr. faces Lee McGregor in a 10-round lightweight bout for the vacant IBF Intercontinental and WBA International Heavyweight titles.
Gomez Jr. (22-2, 7 KOs) brings the greater professional experience, having debuted in 2014 and boxed 124 rounds. The 31-year-old is also slightly taller than McGregor and enters with five more professional fights on his record.
McGregor (16-2-1, 11 KOs) carries the bigger knockout threat on paper, with 11 stoppages from 16 wins. The 29-year-old has been through mixed form recently, losing to Nathaniel Collins last year after previously beating Isaac Lowe in Riyadh.
Main card also has Louie O’Doherty defending his British lightweight title against unbeaten challenger Ahmed Hatim, with the vacant Commonwealth lightweight title also on the line.
O’Doherty (11-0, 3 KOs) has moved quickly since turning professional in 2023, already establishing himself as British champion at just 25 years old. His standout win came against Regan Glackin, where he stopped the defending champion in the 10th round to claim the belt. The champion has also shown he can handle the full championship distance, outpointing Khoumari over 12 rounds in June 2025.
Hatim (12-0, 3 KOs), known as “No Mercy,” enters as an unbeaten and more experienced professional challenger. The 29-year-old turned pro in 2021 and brings height, patience and a style into the biggest fight of his career.
