Universal Promotions brings the UP Boxing Series back to the historic Palacio de Recreación y Deportes in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, with Choke de Campeones streaming live on TrillerTV.
The main event features Olajuwon “El Rayo” Acosta (15-0, 10 KOs) against Ephraim “The Effect” Bui (11-1, 9 KOs) for the WBA Continental Americas super flyweight title.
Acosta enters as the local favorite, representing Mayagüez and looking to use his hand speed and home support to secure the biggest win of his career. Fighting in front of his own crowd gives him a major stage to prove he belongs among the top names at 115lbs.
Bui travels from Houston with a strong reputation as a technical fighter and dangerous puncher, carrying an 80% knockout rate. After a tough learning experience against John “Scrappy” Ramirez, he now gets another chance to show he is a serious contender in the division.
The stakes are high, with the winner expected to claim the WBA Continental Americas belt, move into the world top 10, and take a major step toward a future WBA super flyweight title opportunity.
Acosta acknowledged the danger posed by his opponent, stating: “Bui is a very strong and dangerous fighter, but styles make fights. This training camp I’ve been doing in Japan has helped me a lot because the sparring is world-class. Here, I’m working with different styles that I wasn’t used to facing before. A lot of speed, explosive fights, different movement. Whatever Bui brings definitely won’t impress me. On May 30, fans are going to see a spectacle. It’s going to be a war from start to finish. There will be a lot of tension because he can take my head off, but I can also take his head off. We both have the power to do it. It’s going to be exciting. I have the skills to get the victory. I’m stepping into the ring to give my people a great show.”
