Biography
Tramaine Dashon Williams, known as “The Mighty Midget,” is a professional boxer from New Haven, Connecticut, born on November 2, 1992. Williams began boxing at the age of nine, training under Brian Clark at Ring One Boxing in New Haven. His amateur career was impressive, with a record of 97 wins and 10 losses; he secured ten national championships, which included two Ringside World titles, four National Silver Gloves, and a National Golden Gloves title that earned him a spot in the 2012 Olympic Trials.
Williams kicked off his professional boxing career on April 14, 2012, at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, achieving a first-round technical knockout victory over Jesse Anguiano. On May 30, 2015, he faced Josh Bowles at the Danbury Ice Arena in Danbury, Connecticut, winning by sixth-round technical knockout. On July 27, 2019, Williams fought Yenifel Vicente at the College Park Center in Arlington, Texas, winning by a ten-round unanimous decision and capturing the vacant IBF-USBA and WBO-NABO junior featherweight titles.
On August 1, 2020, Williams fought Angelo Leo at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Montville, Connecticut, for the vacant WBO junior featherweight title, but lost the bout by unanimous decision. On August 12, 2022, he faced Jetro Pabustan at the Findlay Toyota Center in Prescott Valley, Arizona, securing a ten-round unanimous decision victory. However, on April 22, 2023, Williams fought Elijah Pierce at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, Connecticut, losing by ten-round unanimous decision.
Williams is a father and often shares moments with his daughter on social media. He has faced personal challenges, including legal issues and incarceration, but has worked to redirect his life through boxing. In 2024, during a Team Combat League event, Williams collapsed mid-fight due to dehydration. Fortunately, he recovered and reassured fans of his well-being.
Technical Overview
Under the guidance of his longtime trainer, Brian Clark, at Ring One Boxing, Williams has developed a boxing style that leverages his strengths. His favorite combinations often begin with a sharp jab to set the distance, followed by a straight left hand or a left uppercut to the body, and concluding with a right hook to the head. These sequences are designed to exploit defensive lapses in his opponents.
Williams’ head movement is tight, twitchy, and defensive-first, not exaggerated. His shoulders roll just enough to set up counters or deflect incoming shots. He keeps his knees slightly bent for efficient movement, and his feet stay light, never flat on the ground.
Williams’s has golden American amateur footwork. The stance typically keeps the feet about six inches or less than shoulder-width apart, allowing for quick movement without sacrificing stability. From head to toe, everything is aligned: the head is centered over the hips, the shoulders are relaxed but squared, the knees are slightly bent, and the toes point forward or slightly outward for better traction. This position enables the fighter to remain grounded yet mobile.
He’ll shift to the left, pull his shoulder back, and pivot swiftly, spinning into new positions while maintaining control. Similar to military drills, these movements are ingrained in fighters early on: pivot off the ball of the foot, step in with the jab, and retreat by moving the back foot first, always keeping that shoulder-to-toe alignment.
