Biography

Tomoki Kameda, known as "El Mexicanito," is a Japanese professional boxer who has made significant strides in the bantamweight and super bantamweight divisions. Born on July 12, 1991, in Osaka, Japan, Kameda is the youngest son in a renowned boxing family, with his brothers Kōki and Daiki also achieving world champion status. His father, Shiro Kameda, envisioned all three sons becoming world champions—a dream that materialized, earning the family a Guinness World Record for the most siblings to win boxing world titles.

Kameda's professional career commenced in 2008, and he quickly amassed an impressive record. In 2013, he captured the WBO bantamweight title by defeating Paulus Ambunda, becoming the first Japanese boxer to win a WBO title. He successfully defended his title against Immanuel Naidjala and Pungluang Sor Singyu, the latter victory marking his U.S. debut with a seventh-round knockout. However, after a split decision win over Alejandro Hernández in 2014, Kameda vacated the title in pursuit of a unification bout with WBA champion Jamie McDonnell. The WBO declined to sanction the fight, leading Kameda to relinquish his belt.

The subsequent bouts against McDonnell in 2015 resulted in two close unanimous decision losses for Kameda, marking the first defeats of his career. Undeterred, he moved up to the super bantamweight division, securing victories over opponents like Edgar Martinez and Iván Morales. In 2018, he claimed the WBC interim super bantamweight title by defeating Abigail Medina in Tokyo. This victory set the stage for a title bout against Rey Vargas in 2019, where Kameda lost by unanimous decision in a closely contested match.

After a hiatus, Kameda returned to the ring in 2021, recording wins over Hironori Miyake and Yonfrez Parejo, the latter earning him a mandatory challenger position for the WBA super bantamweight title. He continued his campaign with knockout victories against William Encarnación and Luis Castillo.
