Biography
Takeshi Inoue was born on December 1, 1989, in Tokyo, Japan, into a family that could potentially be the most dominant family in boxing history: the Inoue clan. The Inoues are known for their deep Japanese pride and cultural roots, which trace back to the feudal, warring states eras and their lineage to the former imperial Army capital of Zama, Japan. It was a breeding ground for some of the most skilled, crafty, and dominant warriors in human history. Takeshi Inoue made his professional debut in 2014, resulting in a draw. Despite this minor setback, he would bounce back to become a Japanese boxing superstar.
Takeshi's defining moment in his journey to stardom was when he fought against the former WBA World Super Welterweight champion, Jaime Munguia, in January 2019. Despite the eventual loss, Inoue's performance earned him respect and recognition in the boxing world. So much so that he was able to challenge Tim Tszyu a year later for the WBO Global title, despite taking his second loss. Takeshi showed once more why he is a threat to anyone in his division. Although Takeshi has yet to become a full world champion like his cousins Naoya and Takuma Inoue, his technique and technical skills are at a world champion level.
Technical Overview
He has an amazing overhand right and employs a Japanese-Mexican hybrid of pressuring fighting style for all 12 rounds. Besides his cousin's good looks, he has inherited a granite chin, explosive forward rotation, and a twist that allows for the Inoue family's explosive footwork and heat-seeking combinations. Despite his nearly absurd pressure fighting style, it's important to note that Inoue's defense and footwork are very fundamental. He uses a high guard to deflect big hooks, block uppercuts, and throw straight punches down the middle, which keeps him from absorbing major damage often when in a flurry with opponents. His footwork always keeps him in a good position to counter-punch, march forward, or pull himself out of the action.
Inoue also employs a high guard. That awesome march down to jab range allows him to set up his big overhand shots, lead right hooks that push his opponents to the ropes, or put his head in his opponent's chest in the high guard position, allowing for big body shots that are sure to slow down his opponent for the rest of the bout. Despite being the biggest Takeshi in the Inoue clan, he possesses very fast footwork and maneuvers that allow him to pull out of his opponent's big shots by pushing off his back leg or exploding into his rabbit-like speed combinations. He enjoys boxing toe to toe, whether moving forward or backward, often leading with a jab or a right uppercut.
Like his cousin Naoya Inoue, Takeshi is a physical powerhouse, always a concern when marching forward or working in the clutch due to their physicality and gifts. On top of that, they have undeniable willpower that can certainly crush any non-world championship-level opponent, allowing his aggressively smart boxing style to flourish. Inoue's boxing style is defined by his aggressive approach, knockout power, and relentless pursuit of victory. His ability to unleash powerful combinations and apply pressure on opponents has made him a Pacific regional favorite.
