Biography

Nikita Tszyu was born on January 19, 1998, in Sydney, Australia. He is the son of the former undisputed light-welterweight champion, Kostya Tszyu, and the brother of the current WBO world champion, Tim Tszyu. The modern Tszyu family takes great pride in their international heritage. Their father, Kostya, is of ethnic Russian, Korean, and Mongolian descent, while their mother, Natasha Anikina, is of ethnic Russian descent.

After becoming the Australian junior national champion on several occasions, Tszyu temporarily left boxing to focus on his higher education. Following his high school graduation, he enrolled at the University of Technology Sydney, where he earned a Bachelor of Architectural Design. He briefly worked in the industry before returning to boxing at the age of 23. With no signs of ring rust and a strong passion for the sport, he entered his new job field in boxing as a dominant, technical wizard, displaying scientific and show-stopping performances. Nikita made his professional boxing debut against Aaron Stahl in March 2022 at Nissan Arena in Brisbane, winning by TKO. By chance, Nikita's professional debut took place almost exactly 30 years after his father's first professional fight.

On August 20, 2025, at the ICC Sydney Theatre, Nikita Tszyu defeated Lulzim Ismaili, forcing him to retire in the corner after a first-round knockdown and rib injury to claim the vacant WBO Inter-Continental Super Welterweight title. Earlier, on August 28, 2024, at the same venue, Tszyu stopped Koen Mazoudier via ninth-round TKO, capturing the IBF Australasian Super Welterweight title. These wins highlighted his ability to apply steady pressure, break opponents down over the rounds, and remain composed on a big stage.

Technical Overview

The Tszyu family is well-known for their scientific approach to boxing and life. Nikita is the most scientific member of the family, holding a degree in architecture, which provides him with a strong foundation, much like a well-constructed building meant to last generations. The Tszyu style emphasizes fundamental techniques, ensuring that every clan member can fight off the back leg, fight forward effectively, test distance, and minimize damage. Nikita, in particular, excels in head movement meant to counter shots, putting pressure on opponents, and controlling the pace. What's most noteworthy is Nikita's inherited "Killswitch" from his father and older brother, which helps him know when it's time to slug it out or put his opponent down. The Tszyu family's championship ring IQ has clearly rubbed off on Nikita, much like the Inoue family with Takuma Inoue, who learned from his father Noyua, and older brother.

Despite being part of one of the greatest clans in modern boxing history, Nikita distinguishes himself with his exceptional counter-punching skills, a knack for delivering exquisite left uppercuts, and his proficiency in using his left hand while in a southpaw stance. He expertly controls the pace of the fight with southpaw movement and focuses on technique. However, Nikita is not afraid to unleash damaging blows with precise hooks and natural power. Nikita is poised to be a force in the world of professional boxing for years to come.
