Biography
Juan Carlos Carrillo Palacio (born October 10, 1992) is a Colombian professional boxer from Barranquilla, Colombia. Standing 6-foot-3 with a 73½-inch reach, Carrillo fights from a southpaw stance and has competed primarily in the light heavyweight division.
Carrillo developed through an accomplished amateur career representing Colombia. One of his biggest achievements came at the 2010 Youth Olympic Games in Singapore, where he won the silver medal in the 75-kilogram division after reaching the final against Australian boxer Damien Hooper.
He made his professional debut in May 2019 with a second-round stoppage of Yendris Rodriguez Valdez in Miami. Carrillo subsequently competed across the United States, Colombia and the Dominican Republic, recording stoppage victories over opponents including Reinaldo Gonzalez, Rafael Fernandez Sosa, Matthew Tinker and Robert Burwell.
In June 2023, Carrillo defeated Richard Vansiclen by majority decision over ten rounds at Turning Stone Resort & Casino to win the vacant WBO Inter-Continental light heavyweight title. Both fighters were knocked down during the contest.
Carrillo added another regional championship in October 2024 when he defeated Gilbert Castillo Rivera by unanimous decision in San Juan to win the vacant IBF Latino light heavyweight title. He later recorded knockout victories over Cristian Andres Pena and Marlon Delgado, continuing a professional career built on the foundation of his international amateur experience.
