Biography
Jhon Elin Orobio Siniestra, known as “El Tigre,” is a Colombian-born professional boxer competing in the junior welterweight division. Born on June 21, 2003, Orobio fights out of Montreal, Quebec, under the Eye of the Tiger Management (EOTTM) banner. His journey began in Cali, Colombia, where he developed a passion for boxing at a young age. Seeking greater opportunities, he relocated to Montreal, Canada, to pursue his boxing career more seriously. There, he caught the attention of renowned trainer Marc Ramsay, who recognized his potential and took him under his wing.
Before turning professional, Orobio had a brief amateur career, recording 13 bouts with a 33.33% knockout rate between 2021 and 2022. Originally a soccer player, he discovered boxing at the age of 10 after learning about Muhammad Ali. This inspiration led him to channel all his energy into the sport.
Orobio made his professional debut on March 23, 2023, at the Montreal Casino, where he secured a first-round TKO victory over Alejandro Medina. He continued his rise on May 5, 2023, in Cuernavaca, Mexico, defeating Leonardo Domínguez Sosa via a second-round TKO. On September 5, 2024, at the Casino de Montreal, he faced Yoel Manriquez and earned another second-round TKO. Most recently, on November 7, 2024, in Montreal, he delivered a dominant first-round TKO against Jacopo Colli.
Despite the language barrier—Orobio primarily speaks Spanish and is still learning French—he has been integrating into life in Montreal. He continues to train under Marc Ramsay and has formed close relationships within his camp, including with fellow boxer Moreno Fendero.
Technical Overview
Jhon Orobio, often hailed as “Gervonta Davis 2.0,” embodies a fighting spirit of the Mexican adage “Es de ley pelear hasta la muerte” (“It’s the law to fight until death”). His style is a bit Americanized, but it is reminiscent of Marco Antonio Barrera. Everything begins with his jab and footwork. He uses it to control range and bait reactions. One moment it flickers like a decoy, the next it doubles up with weight behind it then and setting up layered attacks.
His footwork complements the jab. Orobio slides forward with tight steps, his hips coiled, always ready to explode or pivot. This gives him the ability to control the center of the ring and cut distance. He prefers mid- and close-range work, where his tools are most effective.
When in range, he attacks both the high and low lines. A jab to the body is followed by a hook upstairs, or an uppercut is slipped beneath the guard just as the opponent tries to reset. He mixes shots along the centerline—jabs and crosses that flow into body hooks or uppercuts.
Against the ropes, Orobio targets the body first to pull the guard down, then finishes with hooks and straights upstairs. He uses timing to disrupt. Stillness freezes his opponents. He uses feints, slight shifts of his lead shoulder or foot to create hesitations, then punishes with short bursts. Defensively, he keeps a high shell. He rolls and blocks without losing his base. He does not retreat but shifts his weight to stay safe while returning fire. He prioritizes balance and positioning over athleticism.
