Biography

Frank Sanchez is a Cuban professional heavyweight boxer known for his speed, technical ability, and polished amateur-style movement inside the ring. Nicknamed “The Cuban Flash,” Sánchez was born on 18 July 1992 in Guantánamo, Cuba, and stands 6 ft 4 in (193 cm) with a 78-inch reach.

Sánchez made his professional debut in September 2015, scoring a first-round stoppage victory over Justin Thornton in Louisiana. He quickly developed a reputation as one of the slickest and most technically gifted heavyweights outside the world-title picture, winning his first several bouts by knockout while showcasing excellent footwork, hand speed, and defensive awareness.

After an early no contest against Lamont Capers in 2018, Sánchez resumed his unbeaten run and began facing progressively stronger opposition. In August 2019, he defeated Victor Bisbal to win the vacant WBO-NABO heavyweight title, stopping the Venezuelan after four rounds. Later that year, he stepped in as a late replacement against Jack Mulowayi and dominated the bout by unanimous decision to reclaim the NABO title.

Sánchez continued building momentum in 2020, defeating durable heavyweight Joey Dawejko to capture the WBC Continental Americas heavyweight title. He followed that victory with knockout wins over Brian Howard and Julian Fernandez, steadily establishing himself as one of the top heavyweight contenders in the world rankings.

One of the biggest victories of Sánchez’s career came in October 2021, when he faced undefeated Nigerian contender Efe Ajagba on the undercard of Tyson Fury vs. Deontay Wilder III. Sánchez delivered a masterclass performance, outboxing Ajagba over ten rounds and scoring a knockdown on his way to a clear unanimous decision victory. The win significantly elevated his status in the heavyweight division and demonstrated his ability to compete against elite-level opposition.

In early 2022, Sánchez comfortably outpointed veteran heavyweight Christian Hammer, continuing his unbeaten streak and reinforcing his reputation as one of boxing’s most avoided heavyweights. He later returned in December 2023 with a seventh-round stoppage win over Junior Fa in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Sánchez suffered the first defeat of his professional career in May 2024, when he lost his NABO and WBC Continental Americas titles to unbeaten German heavyweight Agit Kabayel via seventh-round stoppage in Saudi Arabia.
