David Adeleye

David Bankole Adeleye, born on November 16, 1996, in London, England, is a professional British boxer competing in the heavyweight division. Standing at 6 feet 4½ inches tall, he fights using an orthodox stance. Adeleye has quickly established himself as one of Britain’s rising heavyweights, gaining valuable experience through high-profile sparring sessions with renowned fighters such as Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua.

Raised in Ladbroke Grove, London, in a Nigerian household, Adeleye was instilled with strong academic and cultural values. His parents, originally from Ikole in Ekiti State, Nigeria, emphasized the importance of education before pursuing sports. Nigerian culture values both academic success and athletic excellence, with boxing and football often serving as alternative paths to success. Growing up, Adeleye was influenced by boxing legends Lennox Lewis, Muhammad Ali, and Roy Jones Jr., viewing athletics as a means to personal and professional growth.

Adeleye began boxing at the age of 14 at the Dale Youth Club, a gym renowned for producing top talent. Under the guidance of coach Gary McGuiness, he progressed rapidly in the sport, winning the Junior ABA Championship in 2013 and the Senior ABA title in 2018. Additionally, he represented England internationally, earning a gold medal at the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) Boxing Championships. These accomplishments established him as an exceptional amateur boxer with strong technical skills. Outside of boxing, Adeleye places great importance on education and business. In 2018, he graduated from the University of Wolverhampton with a degree in business management.

Turning professional in 2019, Adeleye quickly built a reputation for his stoppage technique. He secured a technical knockout victory over Jeamie Tshikeva on April 25, 2020, showcasing his ability to dominate opponents early in fights. On October 28, 2023, he faced Fabio Wardley for the vacant WBO European Heavyweight title but suffered a technical otknockout loss. However, he rebounded with a first-round technical knockout against Solomon Dacres on December 7, 2024.
