Cherneka Johnson is an Australian professional boxer and one of the leading fighters in women’s boxing. Born in Tauranga, New Zealand, Johnson moved to Australia at a young age and built an impressive amateur career, winning the 2011 AIBA Women’s Junior World Championship, three Australian national titles, and three Golden Gloves championships before turning professional in 2016.
Known by her nickname “Sugar Neekz,” Johnson has competed at bantamweight and super bantamweight, developing a reputation as a skilled and aggressive fighter with strong technical ability and championship experience. She won the IBF female super bantamweight title in 2022 and successfully defended the belt before moving on to bigger challenges.
In 2024, Johnson became a two-time world champion by defeating Nina Hughes to capture the WBA bantamweight title. She reached the top of the division in 2025, defeating Shurretta Metcalf to become the undisputed female bantamweight champion. With victories across multiple weight classes and years of international experience, Johnson remains one of the most accomplished fighters in women’s boxing.
