Alexander Espinoza

Alexander Vinicio Espinoza Zurita is an Ecuadorian professional boxer competing in the super lightweight division. Fighting out of Ibarra, Ecuador, Espinoza is an orthodox boxer which made his professional debut in October 2013.

Espinoza began his career steadily on the Ecuadorian boxing circuit, building experience through a series of victories over regional opposition. Early wins against fighters such as Jonathan Angulo, Carlos Alfredo Vera Bones, and Esteban Moreno helped establish him as a promising prospect. Although he suffered setbacks against unbeaten fighters like Roger Guerrero, Espinoza consistently rebounded and continued developing his skill set and confidence in the ring.

Between 2018 and 2020, Espinoza emerged as one of Ecuador’s more accomplished domestic contenders. He captured the vacant Ecuadorian super lightweight title in 2019 with a split-decision victory over the previously unbeaten Edwin Bennett, adding to an impressive run that included knockout victories against Luis Araguayan and Jose Luis Prieto. During this stretch, he demonstrated improved finishing ability and stamina over longer fights, becoming a reliable headline fighter on the Ecuadorian scene.

Espinoza continued his rise through the regional rankings with notable wins over Jose Calyecac Capilla, Jorge Alberto Romero Ayala, Felipe Larez, and Nestor Luna Alonso. In 2024, he traveled to Australia to challenge undefeated prospect Jalen Tait in a competitive ten-round bout, ultimately losing a narrow split decision. Despite the defeat, Espinoza earned respect for his toughness and ability to compete effectively on foreign soil against undefeated opposition.

Later in 2024, Espinoza scored a fifth-round knockout over Romario Escobar, but his momentum was interrupted in 2025 when he suffered a first-round knockout loss to highly regarded American prospect Emiliano Vargas at Madison Square Garden Theater in New York. He bounced back quickly with a decision victory over Reno Reyes, once again demonstrating resilience after adversity.

In 2026, Espinoza dropped a close split decision to Carlos Alfredo Vera Bones in a rematch before securing a high-profile opportunity against former unified world champion Yuriorkis Gamboa in Florida.
