Biography

Agron Smakici is a Croatian professional heavyweight boxer known for his explosive punching power and aggressive southpaw style, as he is considered to be one of the highest knockout ratios among active European heavyweights.

Smakici made his professional debut in 2011 and quickly developed a reputation as a dangerous finisher, stopping many opponents within the opening rounds. After winning his first four bouts by stoppage, he suffered the first defeat of his career in 2017 against Dutch journeyman Giovanni Auriemma, losing on points after receiving a deduction during the contest. Rather than derail his career, the setback appeared to sharpen Smakici’s focus as he returned with a series of devastating knockout wins across Europe.

Between 2017 and 2022, Smakici established himself on the regional heavyweight scene with victories over fighters such as Alex Mazikin, Gabriel Enguema, Lenroy Thomas, and Fernando Rodrigo Simoes de Almeida. His win over former Commonwealth title challenger Lenroy Thomas in Dubai particularly boosted his reputation, as Smakici scored a dramatic third-round knockout against the experienced British heavyweight.

Despite his success, Smakici has also faced several difficult tests against undefeated contenders. In 2019, he suffered a first-round knockout loss to rising Kazakh heavyweight Zhan Kossobutskiy in a bout for the vacant IBO Inter-Continental heavyweight title. He later challenged unbeaten German contender Agit Kabayel for the vacant European heavyweight championship in March 2023, losing by third-round technical knockout after being overwhelmed by Kabayel’s pressure and body punching.

Smakici rebounded from that defeat with stoppage victories in Austria and Croatia before facing another undefeated prospect, Artem Suslenkov, in October 2025. After a competitive start, Smakici was forced to retire on his stool after five rounds, suffering his third professional defeat.
