William Zepeda currently holds the top spot in the lightweight division and is ranked as the number one contender by all four major boxing sanctioning bodies. However, his chance to secure a title shot may be in jeopardy if he doesn't perform well in his upcoming match against Giovanni Cabrera. The fight will be the main event of a Golden Boy show at the Toyota Arena in Ontario, California and will be broadcast live on DAZN.

"I've watched some of Cabrera's previous fights. He's a tough opponent who throws a high volume of punches. That's what we're preparing for. Facing someone who will push me hard. His fighting style is unique and unconventional; he surprises with punches from unexpected angles. I'm feeling confident and strong, full of energy that will benefit me in this bout."

Cabrera, under the guidance of legendary trainer Freddie Roach, has sparred with boxing icon Manny Pacquiao in the past. He aims to disrupt the celebration, much like he almost did last year when he narrowly defeated Isaac Cruz in a split decision. Cabrera recently secured a unanimous decision victory over Ricardo Quiroz in March, while Zepeda dominated Maxi Hughes in a four round bout during the same month.

"At this level, every opponent poses a challenge because they all covet what I possess. I must focus on each match. He is eager to claim what is mine already. The lightweight division is fiercely competitive, filled with top tier fighters. That's why I push myself hard because I understand the challenges."

Zepeda is next in line for potential fights against the reigning champions at 135 pounds, which currently include Gervonta Davis (WBA), Shakur Stevenson (WBC), Vasililiy Lomachenko (IBF) and Denys Berinchyk (WBO).

"I have already requested significant bouts from Golden Boy's Oscar De La Hoya and Eric Gomez going forward. Oscar has assured me that it will happen. We are just awaiting the right timing and opportunity to face one of these elite fighters for a shot at the title."
