Following the spectacular showdown between Terence Crawford and Errol Spence Jr., the boxing world finds itself in a state of flux. With Spence Jr.’s future hanging in the balance, Crawford may soon find himself faced with a critical decision. Should the PBC decide to steer Errol Spence Jr. in another direction, a wide array of opportunities may soon open for Crawford in the 154-lb division.

The list of potential opponents for Crawford is lengthy and packed with talent: Tim Tszyu, Josh Kelly, Brian Mendoza, Sebastian Fundora, Jesus Ramos, Liam Smith, Israil Madrimov, Bakhram Murtazaliev, and Erickson Lubin are all viable contenders. As all four belts remain firmly in the grip of Jermell Charlo while he challenges Canelo Alvarez, Crawford’s move to junior middleweight seems like the most strategic decision, especially since the 147-lb division offers no enticing fights for him, barring a bout with Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis. While such a fight would undoubtedly stir excitement among fans, it falls short of being a mega-bout.

As for Spence Jr., it appears that his rematch clause might be more detrimental than beneficial to his career. His recent loss to Crawford, a bout that saw Spence’s confidence severely shaken by the sixth round, has taken a significant toll. Paulie Malignaggi, discussing the fight on his YouTube channel, noted how Crawford’s ability to punch at different angles and speeds made Spence doubt his own skills. Such a defeat is likely to make the PBC reconsider Spence Jr’s future bouts carefully, for the sake of his career.

Crawford’s victory over Spence Jr. showcased his incredible skill and strategic prowess. From his fantastic jab to his aptitude at landing more consistent and powerful punches, Crawford proved his mettle as a formidable opponent. His spectacular performance has even led some, like Malignaggi, to compare his departure with the legendary Floyd Mayweather’s exit, if he were to retire now. However, given the numerous opportunities and potential big-money fights ahead, Crawford’s future remains thrillingly uncertain.
