Julio Cesar Chavez believes Canelo Alvarez has earned a place among the 10 greatest Mexican fighters of all time, but still, Canelo’s legacy remains a debated subject in boxing circles.

His supporters point to his world titles across four divisions, long run at the top level, and wins over names such as Gennadiy Golovkin, Miguel Cotto and Sergey Kovalev. Others argue that his defeats to Floyd Mayweather, Dmitry Bivol and Terence Crawford, along with debates over scorecards and matchmaking, keep him below Mexico’s most iconic names.

Chavez, widely regarded as one of Mexico’s greatest fighters, was asked where he ranks Canelo and listed him alongside several national legends.

“Mexico has been so great,” Chavez said, naming Salvador Sanchez, Ruben Olivares, Jose “Mantequilla” Napoles, Marco Antonio Barrera, Erik Morales, Canelo, Humberto “Chiquita” Gonzalez and Ricardo “Finito” Lopez. When asked directly whether Canelo belongs in the top 10, Chavez was clear: “Yes, of course, man.”

Would you put Canelo among the best Mexican fighters?
