It’s time to welcome the first Fight Week of 2025, kicking off with a bang in boxing. Headlining the action is Jai Opetaia vs David Nyika this Wednesday in Australia, while Callum Simpson defends his British and Commonwealth super middleweight belts on Saturday in Sheffield, England.

Opetaia makes the second defense of his IBF cruiserweight belt at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre on January 8. Nyika, coming from New Zealand as a late replacement, looks to snatch the major title on enemy soil. This DAZN-streamed event also features big Aussie names like Justis Huni in a heavyweight clash and some solid undercard bouts.

In Sheffield, Callum Simpson puts his unbeaten record on the line against Steed Woodall. Simpson, who impressed fans in two successful outings last year, can’t afford to overlook the hard-hitting Woodall. Over in the lightweight co-feature, British southpaw Caroline Dubois meets Canada’s former title challenger Jessica Camara. This Boxxer event airs on Peacock in the U.S. and on Sky Sports in the UK.

So there you have it - boxing and plenty of suspense. Mark your calendars for January 8 - 11, because this first Fight Week of the new year promises surprises for fight fans everywhere.
