Fabio Wardley has dismissed the idea of facing Moses Itauma at this stage, insisting his full focus remains on his upcoming bout with Daniel Dubois on May 9.
Wardley addressed growing calls for an all-British showdown but suggested the hype around Itauma is moving too quickly. “We as boxing fans… love to get carried away… early doors, it is a bit like, ‘let’s slow it down,’” he said, emphasizing the need for the 21-year-old to gain more experience before stepping into elite-level fights.
The WBO champion also pointed to practical complications, as both fighters train under Ben Davison and are promoted by Frank Warren, making a matchup difficult in the short term. Wardley instead has his sights set on established names such as Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk.
While not ruling out the fight entirely, Wardley suggested it would make more sense in the future if both fighters hold multiple titles. For now, his priority remains Dubois, with the outcome of that fight likely to determine his next move in the division.
