Oleksandr Usyk believes Anthony Joshua still has what it takes to become undisputed heavyweight champion in the coming years.
Usyk, who currently holds the WBC, WBA and IBF titles, has already achieved undisputed status three times in his career. Ahead of his May return against Rico Verhoeven, the Ukrainian has been training alongside Joshua - a former rival he defeated in 2021 and 2022.
Despite those victories, Usyk now sees a different future for the Brit.
“2024/25 Anthony with Oleksandr training together. 2026/27 Anthony undisputed champion. Good idea,” Usyk said.
The two heavyweights have been working closely in camp, with Usyk suggesting that both the physical and mental aspects of Joshua’s game are improving.
“I think he’ll be better because physically he’s good, mentally I think he’s good… we speak every day, training two times,” Usyk explained. “I know Anthony is a champion… AJ it’s possible.”
Usyk also hinted that part of their collaboration has been correcting past mistakes. “We work about this and delete mistake. Anthony delete mistake. It’s my partner. My brother.”
So, will AJ ever become a champion again?
