Undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk stirred the combat sports world on Friday by posting an Instagram Story hinting at a potential MMA clash with YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul. Usyk has been a dominant force in boxing, compiling a 23-0 record with 14 knockouts, and further elevating his status over the past year with two consecutive victories over Tyson Fury to become the undisputed heavyweight king.

In contrast, the 28-year-old Paul has made a name for himself by defeating retired MMA stars, as well as going 5-1 against professional boxers since his lone career loss to Tommy Fury in 2023. While Paul has generated headlines by challenging big names, we question if he will even have chances against an elite fighter in his prime, particularly one of Usyk’s stature.

A potential MMA bout could level the playing field to some extent, considering that Usyk has yet to test himself under mixed martial arts rules. Still, the Ukrainian’s footwork, technical prowess, and ring IQ would pose a steep challenge. Although Paul had appeared poised for a boxing match with Canelo Álvarez, the Mexican star’s recent move to Riyadh Season has left the social media sensation without a clear dance partner. If the proposed Usyk-Paul MMA crossover does become reality, it would attract massive attention, undeniably.

Would you watch such a matchup?
