Caleb Plant has become a master at remaining relevant in the super-middleweight division, despite suffering only two professional losses. Following defeats to high-profile foes Canelo Alvarez and David Benavidez, Plant (23-2, 14 KOs) has consistently generated buzz through verbal and physical altercations with potential opponents. His efforts have kept him a main-event fixture, a status underscored by his upcoming May 31 Prime Video headliner in Las Vegas against Mexico’s Jose Armando Resendiz (15-2, 11 KOs). An official who declined to be named confirmed the bout is nearly set, pending an official announcement.

The co-main event is expected to feature former WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo (33-0, 22 KOs), who has not stepped into a ring since November 2023. Charlo has long been linked to Plant, highlighted by a confrontation in July 2023 when Plant punched Charlo during Terence Crawford-Errol Spence Jr. fight week in Las Vegas. With both fighters appearing on the same card, speculation is high that a successful night for each could lead to a clash between the two at 168 pounds.
“That is in the plans,” the official said. “But it’s not locked down yet.” Another factor complicating matters is Plant’s ongoing feud with former super-middleweight title challenger Edgar Berlanga, which first ignited during the Canelo Alvarez-Jaime Munguia weigh-in last spring. Berlanga’s promotional free agency adds another layer of intrigue, but at present, insiders suggest there’s a “very good chance” fans will see Plant square off with Charlo next - provided both fighters take care of business on May 31.
