In a recent Instagram post, former heavyweight titleholder Andy Ruiz Jr. appeared to confirm an upcoming bout against current champion Tyson Fury. Scheduled for July 22 in the United Kingdom, this will be Ruiz’s first world title fight since losing his unified belts to Anthony Joshua in their 2019 rematch.
At the age of 33, the Mexican-American boxer's stunning victory over Joshua on short notice in their initial fight marked the Brit’s first professional loss and secured Ruizs world titles. Known as “The Destroyer,” Ruiz shared an Instagram story post announcing “Tyson Fury vs Andy Ruiz Jr is official! July 22nd,” accompanied by a United Kingdom emoji.
Wembley Stadium is anticipated to be the venue for the world title fight, where Fury last competed when he defeated Dillian Whyte with a knockout last April, drawing a crowd of 94,000 fans. The British heavyweight champion had previously hinted at a major fight announcement without revealing his opponent, promising a “massive, massive news” and an “absolutely monstrous fight.” With the WBC world heavyweight king set to return to the ring, fans eagerly await this highly-anticipated matchup.
