Tim Tszyu moved a step closer to a high-profile clash with Errol Spence Jnr after defeating Denis Nurja by unanimous decision, though a cut suffered in the fight could impact the proposed timeline.

Tszyu was taken the full 10 rounds by Nurja at the WIN Entertainment Centre in Wollongong, overcoming a tough challenge and a significant cut under his left eye. Despite the injury and Nurja’s resilience, Tszyu secured a clear decision.

Attention quickly shifted to what comes next, with Tszyu openly acknowledging a potential summer showdown with former unified welterweight champion Errol Spence Jnr. “Catch the big fish,” Tszyu said, before adding that a fight with Spence “is gonna be one helluva fight” and “a banger.”

Spence, now 36, has not fought since his 2023 loss to Terence Crawford but remains a dangerous opponent as he eyes a move to junior middleweight. Tszyu is confidence in the matchup, saying that he is ready for the challenge and willing to engage in a front-foot battle.

However, the cut sustained against Nurja may require recovery time and therefore push the fight beyond the targeted summer window.
