Shakur Stevenson’s rise has shown no signs of slowing, but boxing great Roy Jones Jr. believes there is one man capable of handing the unbeaten star his first defeat.

Speaking to FightHype, Jones made clear that he would still favor Shakur Stevenson against almost anyone, largely due to his discipline. “Right now Shakur wins it because of his discipline,” Jones said, pointing to Stevenson’s ability to remain focused over 12 rounds and his reputation for keeping his life outside the ring under control. “He’s the type of guy who doesn’t do a lot of crazy stuff in his life.”

Still, Jones singled out Gervonta Davis as the one fighter who could change the narrative. “Don’t get it twisted,” Jones warned. “If somebody could beat him, Tank Davis would be that person because of his intangibles.” While acknowledging Davis’ well-documented issues with consistency and discipline, Jones stressed that at his best, Davis is far more skilled than many give him credit for.

Jones doubled down on that assessment, adding that motivation is the key factor. “If Tank is disciplined and has his mind on right, he’s a problem for anybody,” he said. “Tank can fight better than most people think he can.” According to Jones, Davis’ outside-the-ring troubles have often clouded perceptions of his in-ring ability, but those flaws don’t diminish his threat level when fully focused.
