Terence Crawford expects Errol Spence Jr. to beat Tim Tszyu when the two meet on July 25 in Sydney.
Crawford will be ringside for the 158-pound catchweight fight at Afterpay Arena and says he has already told Tszyu directly that he is backing Spence to win.
“I’mma be supporting Spence, rooting for him,” Crawford said. “Of course I’m picking Spence to win. I told Tszyu to his face.”
Spence has not fought since July 2023, when Crawford stopped him in the ninth round to become undisputed welterweight champion. That remains the only defeat of Spence’s professional career.
The former unified welterweight champion will now return at a higher weight, making his junior middleweight debut after leaving longtime trainer Derrick James to work with Ronnie Shields.
Tszyu enters with more recent activity. After defeats to Sebastian Fundora and Bakhram Murtazaliev, the former WBO junior middleweight champion has rebuilt with back-to-back wins and now gets a major fight at home in Australia.
The July 25 card also features Jermall Charlo against Koen Mazoudier and Stephen Fulton against Liam Wilson.
