Gervonta Davis has a shrinking window to make his WBA lightweight title fight with Floyd Schofield, with the negotiation period reportedly ending on June 22.

Davis last fought in March 2025, retaining his WBA belt through a controversial draw with Lamont Roach Jr. He was later named “champion in recess” by the WBA, but as talk of his return grew, the sanctioning body ordered him to face undefeated contender Schofield instead of moving straight to a vacant title fight.

Schofield’s father and trainer says talks are currently stalled, pointing to Davis’ latest legal situation as a possible reason. “We can’t do anything until the WBA says,” he said. “Tank’s people got to make a fight with us within 20 days.”

Schofield is still waiting for his first world title shot after a planned fight with Shakur Stevenson was cancelled during fight week when he became unwell. At 23, he remains one of the younger unbeaten names in the lightweight picture.
