Australian Olympian Skye Nicolson is on the move to Mexico with her sights set on the interim WBC featherweight title. On September 15, she’s slated to go toe-to-toe with Sabrina Maribel Perez. This showdown will act as a prelude to the anticipated Angel Fierro-Brayan Zamarripa lightweight bout, all part of Matchroom Boxing’s DAZN show in Tijuana. Nicolson took to social media to express her enthusiasm, emphasizing her readiness for world-stage challenges.

Having embarked on her pro journey just last year in San Diego, Nicolson has quickly climbed the ranks, boasting an impressive undefeated record. Three of her victories came in both the U.S. and U.K., and one on home turf in Australia. Nicolson’s credentials also highlight her as the WBC mandatory challenger for Amanda Serrano, the undisputed featherweight champion. A significant boost to her reputation came after her win against Tania Alvarez earlier this year in New York, a fight that preceded Serrano’s title unification match against Erika Cruz.

On the same September night, Cruz, who once held the WBA belt, will be back in the ring, facing Melissa Odessa Parker. Meanwhile, Argentina’s Perez, the defending interim WBC champion, will be battling to maintain her title, a title she secured after a dominant performance against Yolis Marrugo Franco in March 2023.
