Jake Paul is days away from the most dramatic step of his boxing career as he prepares to face Anthony Joshua in a professionally sanctioned bout in Miami. The matchup, once unthinkable, sees the YouTuber-turned-fighter take on the former two-time unified heavyweight champion after previously facing opponents such as a long-retired Mike Tyson and an inactive Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
Former heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs, who trained Paul early in his boxing journey alongside Logan Paul, believes the fight has a clear outcome. Speaking to Seconds Out, Briggs said that if Joshua performs as expected, the bout could mark the end of Paul’s run at this level. He questioned the rule set but added that in a full-scale fight, Joshua’s power should be decisive.
Briggs acknowledged Paul’s commitment to boxing, praising the determination he showed from the beginning. He said Paul has done a “phenomenal job” for someone who entered the sport late, highlighting his willingness to take on major challenges and dedicate himself fully to the craft.
Despite his grim assessment, Briggs offered Paul straightforward advice: to go all out and give everything he has. He encouraged the 28-year-old to push forward without holding back, noting that in boxing, anything can happen once the bell rings.
Paul vs. Joshua takes place this Friday at the Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida, the home of the NBA’s Miami Heat. The fight will be broadcast live worldwide on Netflix.
