In the topsy-turvy world of boxing, bouts often get made when least expected. Shakur Stevenson, despite his boxing prowess, found himself in a peculiar position. Originally eyeing a much-anticipated showdown with the likes of Devin Haney, the rug was pulled out from beneath him when that bout fell apart. With Stevenson already priming himself for high-profile clashes against notables like Vasiliy Lomachenko, William Zepeda, Isaac Cruz, and Frank Martin, the lightweight division took a surprising turn, with many top contenders seemingly unwilling to square off against Stevenson.
While not the first name on Stevenson’s list, circumstances led their paths to cross. Now, the two are set to battle it out for the vacant WBC title on November 16th at the iconic T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The general consensus in the boxing community heavily favors Stevenson, with many unable to imagine a scenario where De Los Santos can mount a significant challenge.
However, De Los Santos, unfazed by the odds stacked against him, is brimming with confidence. Through a self-recorded video, he sent out a clear message to Stevenson: “In the ring, it’s my house motherf——.”
Stevenson, boasting a stellar boxing record, is recognized for his impeccable defensive skills and a resume devoid of any real challenges thus far. His talent is undeniable, and many regard him as a once-in-a-generation boxer. However, De Los Santos believes that the upcoming bout will disrupt this narrative, asserting that inside the ring, it's his domain. Only time will reveal who will have the last word in this unexpected matchup.
