Shakur Stevenson says the opportunity to pursue fights with Devin Haney and Gervonta “Tank” Davis played a major role in his decision to sign with Zuffa Boxing.
Stevenson explained that Dana White and Nick Khan promised to help him secure the biggest available matchups, alongside what he described as life-changing money and opportunities.
“The guys that they mentioned was Devin and Tank,” Stevenson said. “Why would I go away from what I’ve been wanting to do my whole career?”
The four-division champion added that titles are no longer his main motivation, with his focus now on testing himself against the best fighters under the brightest lights.
Haney has not yet confirmed whether he will face Stevenson or proceed with his ordered WBO welterweight title defense against Keyshawn Davis. A Haney defeat could damage Stevenson’s chances of landing that matchup.
A fight with Davis may also remain difficult to arrange, but Stevenson believes Zuffa shares his ambition and can create the major opportunities he has pursued throughout his career.
