Robert Garcia believes Shakur Stevenson should face Raymond Muratalla if a fight with Devin Haney cannot be made.
Stevenson moved up to 140 pounds this year and became a four-division world champion by defeating Teofimo Lopez. He has since indicated that he is open to fighting at either 140 or returning to 135 pounds.
Garcia believes Muratalla, the unbeaten IBF lightweight champion, would be a natural opponent after his recent win over Robson Conceicao.
“I think Raymond is much bigger and much stronger than Zepeda,” Garcia said. “If Shakur gets the Haney fight, we can’t argue. We can’t say he’s ducking Raymond.”
However, Garcia added that if Stevenson insists a Muratalla fight must take place at 135 pounds, “then he’s ducking a little bit.”
Muratalla is also expected to move up to 140 pounds, while Stevenson is preparing to make his Zuffa Boxing debut after signing a multi-fight deal with the promotion.
