Pressure is mounting on Gervonta Davis as calls grow for the WBA to strip him of his champion-in-recess status.
Davis has not recorded a win since June 2024 and last fought to a draw with Lamont Roach Jr. in 2025. Despite his inactivity, the WBA has kept him as champion-in-recess, allowing for a potential return to full champion status in the future.
That position has drawn criticism from leading contender Floyd Schofield, who is pushing for clarity in the title picture. “They need to mandate KID vs Tank or strip him,” Schofield said.
Floyd had been expected to face either Lucas Bahdi or Roach for the vacant belt, but no official announcement has been made.
Davis’ inactivity has largely been tied to issues outside the ring, and his next move may depend on the outcome of an ongoing legal situation. Until then, the WBA’s handling of the title remains under scrutiny.
