Ryan Garcia’s WBC welterweight title defense against Conor Benn could be officially announced as soon as Friday, with the involved parties meeting in Las Vegas to complete negotiations.
The fight is being targeted for September 12 at T-Mobile Arena. Garcia would make the first defense of the WBC title he won in February, while Benn enters as the organization’s No. 1-ranked contender.
Benn rebuilt after his 2025 loss to Chris Eubank Jr. by winning the rematch and then defeating Regis Prograis in April. One remaining sporting question is whether he can comfortably make the 147lb limit, having not weighed in at welterweight since 2022.
Garcia previously revealed the matchup during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, but no official announcement has yet been made.
The final complications involve promotional control and broadcast rights. Garcia is promoted by Golden Boy, whose events stream on DAZN, while Benn fights under Zuffa Boxing, whose cards are carried by Paramount+.
