A cruiserweight clash between Ryan Rozicki and Robin Safar is currently being discussed, with plans to potentially place the bout on the May 2 PBC Pay-Per-View card at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The event will be headlined by Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez defending his WBA and WBO cruiserweight titles against unbeaten David Benavidez.
The potential matchup carries added significance given the spotlight on the cruiserweight division that night, offering both Rozicki and Safar a major platform to elevate their standing. Safar would effectively enjoy a home setting, having relocated to Las Vegas while fighting under Golden Boy Promotions, a co-promoter of the event.
The Swedish contender is coming off a steady 2025 campaign, including a fifth-round stoppage of Roberto Silva and a decision win over Derick Miller Jr. His most notable victory remains a dominant points win over former light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev in May 2024.
Rozicki returned earlier this month after a 15-month layoff, stopping Geraldo Mellado in the second round in Nova Scotia. The Canadian had previously fought to a draw with Yamil Alberto Peralta in December 2024, a result that halted plans for an interim WBC title to be awarded.
Currently ranked No. 1 by the WBC, Rozicki would enter as the higher-rated contender compared to Safar, who sits at No. 14 with the same organization. With Noel Mikaelyan holding the WBC title and the division’s landscape shifting around the Ramirez-Benavidez showdown, a victory for either man could position them for a significant opportunity later in the year.
