Roman Gonzalez, celebrated as one of the finest boxers in the “Fly” divisions, is set to make a triumphant return to the ring on July 12. This event is scheduled to be the biggest boxing event in Nicaragua since the legendary Alexis Arguello last fought there on December 18, 1977.
Gonzalez, along with his manager Carlos Blandon and international promoter Felix “Tuto” Zabala Jr of All Star Boxing, Inc., announced this historic event at a press conference. It will take place in the Roman Arguello Arena, which boasts a capacity of over 15,000 fans and is named after the iconic fighter, Alexis Arguello.
“I am super happy and excited to be fighting in front of all my family, the Nicaraguan people,” said Gonzalez. “It will be a dream come true if I can crown myself a six-time champion in five different divisions here in Nicaragua. For me and my team, the greatest of all time will always be Alexis Arguello.”
Zabala Jr, President of All Star Boxing Inc., expressed his enthusiasm about bringing this event to Nicaragua. “The Nicaraguan people will experience a historic night of boxing,” he stated. “Along with my partner and mentor Mr. Akihiko Honda of Teiken Promotions, we have worked tirelessly for over 20 years to develop boxing in the region and bring about world title fights. Having Roman here is a dream come true, and this will indeed be a special one.”
After a 19-month hiatus, Gonzalez's return is highly anticipated. “With the support of his fans, we expect a positive victory and look forward to a title shot thereafter,” added Blandon, Gonzalez’s manager. Five potential opponents from Mexico, the United States, Panama, and the Philippines are being considered for this bout.
