Rolando “Rolly” Romero will make the first defense of his WBA welterweight title against Teofimo Lopez on August 22 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The fight will be available as a pay-per-view on both Prime Video and DAZN - a major platform for Romero's first outing since winning the vacant title against Ryan Garcia last May in Times Square.

Romero originally won the regular version of the WBA belt before being elevated to full champion in August after Jaron “Boots” Ennis vacated the title to move up to 154lbs.

The 30-year-old had been linked to several possible opponents for his first defense, including Devin Haney and Manny Pacquiao, but will now face Lopez in one of the biggest welterweight fights of the summer.

Lopez is moving up to 147lbs after losing his WBO junior welterweight title to Shakur Stevenson in January. The former unified lightweight champion now has the chance to become a world champion in a third weight class.
