Rolly Romero calls Teofimo Lopez decision “political”

Rolly Romero has disputed the judging in his majority-decision loss to Teofimo Lopez, claiming he deserved to retain his WBA welterweight title. Lopez won by scores of 116-112 and 115-113, while the third judge scored the fight 114-114 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

“I clearly outboxed him,” Romero said. “I cut him, I hurt him multiple times. It’s clear as day. I deserve a rematch.”

Romero argued that his movement and counterpunching were not given the same credit that other fighters receive for similar performances.

“When somebody else does this, it’s a masterclass,” Romero said. “When I do it, it’s self-explanatory. It’s all political.”

Lopez, meanwhile, said he was unconcerned by the scorecards and focused on getting the victory, which made him a three-division world champion.
