Gilberto Ramírez will put his WBA cruiserweight world title on the line against unbeaten star David Benavidez on May 2 in Las Vegas, with Golden Boy Promotions and both camps confirming the bout over the weekend.

Ramírez enters the matchup following a dominant unanimous decision victory over Yuniel Dorticos last June, marking the second successful defense of his black-and-gold WBA belt, and solidifying himself as a major force at cruiserweight.

For Benavidez, the bout represents a bold step into a new weight class. Widely regarded as one of the sport’s elite fighters, he is moving up from light heavyweight in pursuit of becoming a two-division world champion. His most recent outing came on November 22, when he stopped Anthony Yarde via seventh-round technical knockout to retain his light heavyweight title.
