Regis Prograis believes Conor Benn may already be feeling the effects of dropping back to welterweight for his September fight with Ryan Garcia.
Benn has spent much of the past year competing above the 147lb limit, including his victory over Chris Eubank Jr., and fought Prograis at around 150lbs.
“He looks small,” Prograis said. “I hope the weight is not draining him already.”
The concern is not simply whether Benn can make 147lbs, but whether losing the final three pounds will weaken him before facing one of the division’s fastest and most explosive punchers.
Benn appeared physically stronger while competing at higher weights, but returning to welterweight could reduce those advantages against Garcia.
The British challenger must now prove that the cut has not affected his strength, durability or energy when he challenges for the WBC welterweight title.
