Oleksandr Usyk’s team is expected to decide the Ukrainian champion’s next move by the end of the week.
Usyk’s team director, Sergey Lapin, said several options are being discussed and negotiations are ongoing. A fight with Agit Kabayel remains possible, but Lapin made clear that it will depend on both sporting and commercial conditions.
According to Lapin, event structure and financial backing will all play a role in whether the Kabayel fight can be made.
“Agit Kabayel is a strong fighter and a respected champion,” Lapin said. “But fights of this level are not organized through social media or public pressure. They require serious structure, media support and financing.”
Lapin also hinted that Usyk’s future is not guaranteed beyond the next decision. He said every fight is now a major event at this stage of Usyk’s career, and there is still a possibility that his last appearance may have been his final one.
“When a fighter reaches Oleksandr’s level, every time he steps into the ring becomes special,” Lapin said. “Maybe it was his last fight, or maybe there is still one more chapter ahead.”
