Moses Itauma has already asked for a rematch with Filip Hrgovic following his ninth-round stoppage defeat at The O2 in London.
Promoter Frank Warren revealed that the 21-year-old immediately expressed his desire to run the fight back. “He is saying to me, ‘can we get the rematch on?’, which is a natural reaction,” Warren told talkSPORT Boxing.
However, an immediate second fight appears unlikely. Frank Sanchez had previously agreed to step aside to allow Itauma and Hrgovic to fight for the vacant IBF title, with the understanding that he would face the winner next.
Warren suggested Itauma should instead take some time away from boxing before planning his comeback. “You have got to just switch off from boxing, go and chill out, go and spend some time with your family and then come back, recharge your batteries and then we will get to work again,” he said.
Hrgovic has also expressed interest in fighting in Croatia, while a mandatory defense against Sanchez is expected to take priority over a potential rematch with Itauma.
