Mike Tyson says he remains interested in rescheduling his exhibition with Floyd Mayweather despite the legal and contractual problems surrounding the event.
The non-competitive bout had been planned for April 25 in the Democratic Republic of Congo, but Tyson withdrew after suffering a hand injury. He has since said his hands are fully recovered.
Mayweather’s future was further complicated by a lawsuit from CBS Sports Events, which expected to produce proposed exhibitions involving Tyson and Manny Pacquiao. The company accused Mayweather of breaching his agreement by arranging a separate fight with Greek kickboxer Mike Zambidis.
That bout was cancelled earlier this year, although a judge has since ruled that Mayweather can proceed with it. The decision may also leave room for the Tyson or Pacquiao exhibitions to be revived.
“I’m just waiting to see what happens,” Tyson said. “I could use a paycheque.”
No new date has been announced. Should the exhibition eventually happen, Tyson and Mayweather would likely compete with larger gloves and shorter rounds because of their age and size difference.
