Matchroom Boxing has secured the rights to stage the flyweight title fight between Ricardo Sandoval and Galal Yafai after winning a purse bid against Golden Boy Promotions.

Matchroom submitted the winning bid of $625,000, beating Golden Boy’s offer of $411,000, according to the WBC. Under the purse agreement, 90 percent of the total amount ($562,500) will be distributed between the fighters with a 55/45 split in favor of champion Ricardo Sandoval. The remaining 10 percent ($62,500) will go to the winner as a bonus.

Sandoval (27-2, 18 KOs) captured the WBC and WBA flyweight titles in July with a split decision victory over two-division champion Kenshiro Teraji in Japan. The 27-year-old from Los Angeles is currently ranked No. 1 at 112 pounds by The Ring.

Yafai (9-1, 7 KOs), a 2020 Olympic gold medalist for Great Britain, is looking to rebound from a unanimous decision loss to Francisco Rodriguez last June. However, Rodriguez later tested positive for a banned substance, and the result remains under investigation.

Before that bout, Yafai had scored one of the biggest wins of his career by defeating Sunny Edwards in November 2024. Matchroom has said that the date and venue for the Sandoval–Yafai fight will be announced soon.
