Matchroom Boxing has dismissed growing speculation of a rematch between Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte later this year, emphasizing that no such plans are currently in place. The rumors emerged after Joshua shared images of himself back in training alongside Oleksandr Usyk and coach Igor Golub.
Joshua has not fought since his sixth-round stoppage of Jake Paul in December in Miami. His return was delayed after a tragic car accident in Nigeria during a vacation, which claimed the lives of two of his close friends, Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami.
Dillian Whyte’s name had resurfaced as a potential opponent given their history, including a 2015 British title fight won by Joshua and a canceled 2023 bout after Whyte tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs. However, Matchroom CEO Frank Smith played down the possibility, stating that while anything can happen in boxing, a Whyte rematch is not currently expected.
Instead, Matchroom’s priority is ensuring Joshua is fully ready, both physically and mentally, before confirming his next fight. With Joshua now back in full training, a summer return remains the target, though no opponent or date has been finalized.
