Luis Alberto Lopez (27-2, 15 KOs), the IBF featherweight champion, will defend his title against Michael Conlan (18-1, 9 KOs) on May 27th in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The fight will air on ESPN+ in the afternoon in the U.S.
Conlan, a two-time Irish Olympian, is getting another title shot despite being knocked out in the twelfth round in 2022 in a battle for the WBA ‘regular’ featherweight title.
His recent victories against Miguel Marriaga and Karim Guerfi may not have been enough to merit another title shot so quickly, as he hasn't faced a quality contender like Robeisy Ramirez.
Nevertheless, the tough Mexican champion will travel to Conlan's hometown to defend his title in front of his home fans.
“Luis Alberto Lopez will defend his IBF featherweight title against Michael Conlan on May 27 in the challenger’s native Belfast, Northern Ireland, after the fighters struck a deal,” said Mike Coppinger.
“The 126-pound title fight, which shapes up as a slugfest, will be streamed stateside on ESPN+ in the afternoon.”
