Liam Wilson made a big statement in the lightweight category by defeating Youssef Dib at the WIN Entertainment Center in Wollongong. The bout was crucial for both boxers as they aimed to stay competitive in their weight class.
Wilson, who had previously suffered a loss to Oscar Valdez earlier in 2024, came out strong, effectively using his jab and looking for opportunities to target both Dib's head and body. Despite controlling the tempo and distance, Wilson got hit by a quick right hand towards the end of the second round. Nevertheless, he quickly recovered and displayed a wider range of punches towards the end of the third round, landing a solid right uppercut followed by a left hook to Dib's midsection.
The intensity picked up in the fifth round as both fighters became more aggressive. Wilson continued to press forward despite bleeding from his nose due to a lack of head movement inside exchanges. While Dib also sustained some cuts and managed to land some punches, Wilson's relentless approach began wearing him down. The sixth round showcased heated exchanges with both fighters landing shots consistently.
In the eighth round of the match, Wilson slipped and fell to the canvas, but the referee deemed it a slip. Shortly after getting back up, Wilson landed a powerful left hook that sent Dib crashing into the ropes with his right hand caught between them. Following up with another left hook, Wilson knocked Dib out cold. As Dib fell to the canvas, Wilson delivered a few more punches, securing a decisive victory. He celebrated by challenging George Kambosos Jr.
