Leigh Wood, after a rollercoaster 2023 that included both losses and stunning victories, has recently vacated his WBA featherweight title. As he seeks bigger fights and paydays in 2024, Wood has been training alongside Anthony Joshua at the Ben Davison Performance Centre. Joshua is preparing for his upcoming bout against Otto Wallin on the “Day of Reckoning” card in Saudi Arabia on December 23rd.

Wood has observed Joshua’s development in the gym and is excited to see him apply these learnings in the ring. He reflects on fans’ desire to see the return of the more aggressive and dominant Joshua, reminiscent of his earlier career, especially the victory over Wladimir Klitschko in 2017. Since his defeat to Andy Ruiz in 2019, Joshua has appeared more cautious, with subsequent trainers struggling to reignite his earlier aggressive style.

Wood believes that under Davison’s guidance, Joshua will enter the fight with a clear and decisive plan. He acknowledges Wallin’s skill and potential to cause upsets but remains confident in Joshua’s abilities. Wood predicts a knockout victory for Joshua, expecting him to look impressive in the process. This fight is seen as crucial for Joshua to reaffirm his status and style in the heavyweight division.
