Lamont Roach believes a future fight with Shakur Stevenson remains realistic as he prepares to challenge William Zepeda for the WBC lightweight title on August 1.
Roach pointed to Zuffa Boxing’s willingness to work with outside promoters and said recent cross-promotional deals have kept the possibility alive.
“I think it’s very realistic,” Roach said. “I think that’s something that both parties want.”
A victory over Zepeda would make Roach a two-division world champion and give him a common opponent with Stevenson, which he believes could strengthen the case for the matchup.
However, Stevenson is currently being linked with bigger-name opponents, including Devin Haney, Ryan Garcia, Conor Benn and Gervonta Davis.
Even if Roach defeats Zepeda, he may still need another major win to make the Stevenson fight commercially attractive enough to become a priority.
