Gervonta “Tank” Davis recently sparked confusion by declaring on Instagram that his fight with Lamont Roach Jr. was off. However, Roach’s father and trainer, Lamont Roach Sr., told that he has received no official confirmation of any cancellation.
Originally booked for December 14 in Houston, the Davis-Roach clash was moved to March 1 in Brooklyn, New York. Roach Jr, a junior lightweight titleholder from Washington, D.C., is still training for that date - having last defended his belt in June with an eighth-round stoppage of Feargal McCrory. “As far as I’m concerned, the fight is still on,” Roach Sr said.
Davis, 30, also fought just once this year, stopping previously unbeaten Frank Martin in June. Although the Instagram message alarmed fans who have been waiting for the Davis-Roach matchup, nothing official has come from Premier Boxing Champions or other promoters to confirm the bout’s cancellation.
