Lamont Roach Jr. believes precision and a higher work rate can help him overcome William Zepeda in their vacant WBC lightweight title fight.
Roach plans to punish Zepeda’s defensive mistakes while remaining active enough to prevent the Mexican from controlling the contest with constant pressure.
“I’m focused on landing precise shots and capitalizing on his defensive mistakes,” Roach said. “He throws a lot of punches basically non-stop and comes forward.”
The challenge is that Zepeda’s relentless style is built around both volume and body punching, which can slow opponents down and force them into prolonged exchanges. Roach has not always been at his best in high-tempo battles, with previous opponents finding success once fights became more physical and less technical.
If Zepeda’s body attack takes away Roach’s movement, the fight could quickly shift from a battle of accuracy to a test of durability and stamina.
